About the City of Zliten

Zliten is located in the north western part of Libya, embracing the Mediterranean coast. This city is located 160 km (99 mi) east of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, and about 35 km (22 mi) east of the ancient Roman city of Leptis Magna, with an estimated population of about three hundred thousand (300,000) people.

Modern economic activities in Zliten include; Trade and industry, it also contains some public gardens and Islamic buildings and has a stunning and beautiful beach on the Mediterranean Sea. It is located on the coastal highway that connects the western part of the country with the eastern.

The city of Zliten is considered the most famous city in Libya for teaching the Qur’an and its sciences, and it hosts the Al-Asmarya Islamic University, the most famous Islamic university in Libya.

This university includes a number of faculties in the fields of arts, sciences, engineering and medicine, and in this city there is also a higher vocational training center covering various engineering fields.
